Want A Farmhouse Kitchen? Tips For Choosing The Cabinets

by Camila Holland

If you are remodeling your kitchen and want a farmhouse style, there are many things you can do. One thing you should consider is installing new cabinets, especially if your current cabinets are old. The cabinets are one of the first things you see when you walk into the kitchen. You have many options when it comes to cabinets that will work well for a farmhouse kitchen. Below are four of these options so you can get started on your kitchen remodel.

White Shaker

White shaker cabinets look good in a farmhouse kitchen. These can be made with different woods, such as pine, poplar, oak, and more. Tell the cabinet maker what type of wood you like, and they can use this to make your shaker cabinets. Pair darker knobs, such as black or brown, along with the cabinets. You can also choose a darker backsplash or go with a white backsplash for your kitchen.

Distressed Wood Cabinets

Distressed wood cabinets are another type that goes well with a farmhouse kitchen. Oftentimes, softwood is used for these cabinets because this type of wood is easier to distress. This includes hemlock, fir, cedar, and pine. The wood is distressed by using chemicals or tools, or they may be distressed by hand. You may find that softwood is less expensive when compared to hardwood, so this can save you money.

Black Cabinets

If you want something darker, you can choose black cabinets, which look good in a more modern farmhouse kitchen. You could put gold knobs on the cabinets and add some white by using a white backsplash. Oak is often used for black cabinets. This wood is brown, but you can stain it so that it has a black appearance. Some of the wood grain may show through over time, but this can give your cabinets a unique look.

Reclaimed Wood

You can also use reclaimed wood for an authentic farmhouse kitchen. A mixture of dark wood and pale green is often used for reclaimed wood cabinets. Barnwood can be used to make these cabinets, which is a type of true hardwood. Pine timber, hickory, popular, chestnut, or oak can also be used. You can stain all these woods to create the color that you want.

When you finish installing your new cabinets, consider installing a farmhouse sink, changing the flooring, painting the walls, and purchasing new curtains. When you are finished, you will have a true farmhouse kitchen.

Keep these tips in mind when looking for wood kitchen cabinets for your home.
